PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intermediate transfer type thermal transfer printer that can stabilize running of an ink ribbon during printing without generating slippage between the ink ribbon and an intermediate transfer film as an intermediate transfer recording medium. SOLUTION: A guide roller of the intermediate transfer type thermal transfer printer consists of a first guide roller 30 provided to a downstream side of a platen roller 22 in the rotational direction of an arrow E and a second guide roller 31 provided to the upstream side thereof. When a primary image is printed on the intermediate transfer recording medium 23 by lowering a thermal head 26, at least the first guide roller 30 allows the ink ribbon 27 to be brought into press contact with the intermediate transfer recording medium 23.
