PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method of applying a parity bit to encrypt data for protection. SOLUTION: The device comprises a parity bit generator, a first parity bit location generator and a parity bit inserting unit. The parity bit generator generates a parity bit in accordance with data to be outputted, the data comprising a plurality of bits. The first parity bit location generator generates a position N (N is a positive integer) for inserting the parity bit in accordance with a predetermined rule. The parity bit inserting unit inserts the parity bit in a position between the (N-1)th and Nth bits of the data in accordance with the insertion position N generated by the first parity bit location generator, thereby generating encrypted data.
