PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording condition learning device which is capable of shortening the time of recording condition learning operation based on self-recording and reproducing by trusting disk information of a manufacturer to adopt recording condition values as they are in the case that optical disks of the manufacturer does not have any trouble actually by adoption of nominal values. SOLUTION: Keys for collation of disk information identifying manufacturer are preliminarily stored for a plurality of manufacturers in a database 22 for collation. When a value of reproduced disk information coincides with a key for collation, a manufacturer of an optical disk is estimated from the key for collation, and recording condition set values of disk information of the estimated manufacturer are utilized as they are. In the case that optimum values acquired and stored by self-recording and reproducing are stored in the database 22 for collation, the optimum values are utilized as set data. Therefore, recording condition learning operation of general self-recording and reproducing is omitted. Thus the problem is resolved that information of disk information cannot be used for optical disks of all manufacturers because disk information has the same contents per manufacturing lot of optical disks.
