A method for limiting a specific function of a mobile terminal is provided to prevent invasion of privacy of a person or illegal leakage of a security matter. A controller receives a coded value from an external connection unit in a standby mode(210,212). The controller checks whether there is a previously stored coded value(214). If there is a previously stored coded value, the controller checks whether the received coded value is identical to the previously stored coded value(216). If the two coded values are identical, the controller deletes the previously stored coded value(218), and then, recovers the released specific function(220).
