PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a login timeout setting method and apparatus using it which enable the setting of the login timeout compatible with specifications and load conditions of Web clients where Web browsers operate. SOLUTION: In the login timeout setting method, a login timeout value is set in a down-counter at a Web server side to make countdown, a Web client regularly transmits a timeout reset request to reset the down-counter, and also a Web server makes the Web client log out forcibly when the down-counter becomes "zero". The Web client consecutively transmits the timeout reset request at intervals specified by the Web server multiple times by the control of the Web server in login. The Web server receives the timeout reset request that is consecutively transmitted from the Web client and holds each receipt time, determines an average of reception intervals from each receipt time, and computes and set the login timeout value on the basis of the average.
