A CUP ASSEMBLY OF AN ORTHOPAEDIC JOINT PROSTHESIS

A cup assembly (10) of an orthopaedic joint prosthesis comprises a cup-shaped component (11) which is rotationally symmetrical about a polar axis, and which is hollow to receive a rotationally symmetrical head of an component of the joint prosthesis. The cup-shaped component (10) has a groove (16) in its outer surface (13) which extends around the component (11) in a plane which is approximately perpendicular to the polar axis. A spacer component (10) comprises a plurality of spaced apart spacer elements (15) which are connected by a spacer web (14). The spacer web (14), but not the spacer elements (15), can be fitted into the groove (16) in the outer surface (13) of the cup-shaped component (11).
