<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor for a photoelectric conversion material, a photoelectric conversion element and a solar battery which exhibit high photoelectric conversion efficiency and superior stability. <P>SOLUTION: The semiconductor for the photoelectric conversion material contains a heterocyclic compound expressed by a general formula (1) or a general formula (2). In the formula (1), R<SB>1</SB>expresses a substituent except a hydrogen atom or a hydroxy group, Z<SB>1</SB>expresses a group of atoms needed to form aromatic carbocycles or heterocycles, and L expresses methine chains of 1 to 5 each of which may have a divalent aromatic ring group or a heterocyclic group as a linking group at an end or in the middle. In the formula (2), Z<SB>1</SB>expresses the group of atoms needed to form the aromatic carbocycles or heterocycles, and L expresses methine chains of 1 to 5 each of which may have the divalent aromatic ring group or the heterocyclic group as the linking group.
