PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for cutting a metal plate having excellent corrosion resistance of a cut surface by cutting the preceding end and succeeding end of the metal plate having a plated or painted coat on a surface layer, to reduce the edge corrosion of the cut surface. SOLUTION: In the method of cutting the metal plate having the plated or painted coat on the surface layer, a spiral or linear projection with curvature at the tip is formed on the surface of a cylinder. A vertical pair of such cylinders are arranged so that the tip positions of the upper and lower projections are almost equal or the projections lap when both tips of the upper and lower projections are perpendicularly positioned. The cylinders are lifted to form a groove in the metal plate guided between the upper and lower cylinders, and then bending stress is applied to the metal plate to cut the metal plate with excellent corrosion resistance of the cut surface.
