PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnesium strip of excellent machinability and forgeability having a fine surface with uniform plate thickness by eliminating a surface layer with many defective parts. SOLUTION: Circular drums 21, 22 with which the magnesium strip M which is a material to be faced, comes in pressure contact are arranged between an unwinding device 11 and a winding device 12. Cutting tools 23, 24 are placed to face the peripheral surfaces of the circular drums 21, 22 through the magnesium strip M, and nozzles 31a, 31b for spraying a coolant C are placed to point to contact parts between the magnesium strip M and the cutting tools 23, 24. Tension is applied to the magnesium strip M to be faced, by driving force on the winding side and braking force on the unwinding side to bring the magnesium strip M into pressure contact with the peripheral surface of the circular drums 21, 22.
