PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reflect information regarding each chapter included in a recording medium to a top menu when the recording medium is processed to be finalized. SOLUTION: An apparatus for recording information includes a title retrieving unit 310 which reads title information regarding each title of moving image data recorded on an optical disc from the optical disc as the recording medium. A chapter retrieving unit 320 reads chapter information regarding each chapter in each title based on the title information obtained in this manner. A representative image selecting unit 340 selects a representative image in each chapter based on the chapter information obtained in this manner. A menu generating unit 350 generates the top menu including a display area for reproducing each chapter based on the chapter information obtained by the chapter retrieving unit 320.
