The aim of the invention is to create a method for testing an electrical circuit, which does not require a thorough electrical circuit simulation while reliably identifying circuit faults. Said aim is achieved by a method for generating a fault signal that indicates a designing error in an electrical circuit comprising a plurality of electrical components. The electrical circuit is tested for the presence of at least one given functional block that is formed by at least one electrical component, and the fault signal is generated when at least one component parameter of an electrical component of the functional block is inadequate or forms an inadequate combination of parameters in relation to parameters of other components, when at least one electrical component of the functional block is provided with an unsuitable type of component, when a combination of components is provided with at least one unsuitable type of component, or when at least one electrical component of the functional block is connected to an inappropriate power system.
