The present invention relates to compositions, including pharmaceutical compositions that promote complement activation, and contain a polypeptide X1-C-X2-X3-X4-X5-X6-X7-X8-C-X9 as described. The invention further relates to a method of promoting complement activation in a patient by administering a pharmaceutical composition as described herein. Further provided are a wound dressing and an anti-tumor cell antigen antibody formulation containing pharmaceutical compositions of the present invention.
