PARTICLE ARRAY, ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD, AND MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently produce a particle array with a particle group of nano scale arranged in array shape on a substrate.

SOLUTION: An organic layer 3 in which a surface region different in adsorbability from the circumference is formed by the chemical change of a surface functional group, is formed on the substrate 1. The surface of the organic layer 3 is subjected to surface patterning oxidation treatment by a scanning probe microscope to form an array pattern with subsections 5 arranged to adsorb particles 7, and then a particle layer is formed on the organic layer 3 by dipping in or applying a particle dispersion solution. At this time, since the particles 7 in the particle dispersion solution are fixed only onto the respective subsections 5 of the organic layer 3, the particle array with the particle group arranged in array shape is obtained.
