PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an addressing power control method, capable of efficiently retrenching power consumption with regard to the addressing power control method of a plasma display panel (PDP) and a device therefor. SOLUTION: Image data displayed on the PDP is converted into corresponding subfield data, the converted subfield data is analyzed, and an image data changing amount and a subfield for each data changing amount are calculated. An addressing power recovery circuit is made to operate or stop for each subfield according to the calculated subfield by data changing amount. In accordance with the image data changing amount, the mode of the image data is discriminated between a normal mode and a special mode and, in the case of special mode, the number of subfields for displaying the image data is set to be smaller than the number of the subfields at the normal mode, and displaying the data on the PDP.
