1,149,846. Animal food. GENERAL FOODS CORP. 29 April, 1966 [30 April, 1965], No. 19067/66. Heading A2B. A plastic animal food comprises pasteurised meaty and vegetable materials and an aqueous solution of water soluble compounds which include a polyhydric alcohol, for example glycerol, having at least 3 hydroxyl groups, the amount of polyhydric alcohol being at least 4% by weight of the food and exerting a bacteriostatic effect, the moisture content being 15-35% and imparting the desired plasticity, the food being in intimate contact with an antimycotic. The principal component by weight of the water soluble compounds in the solution may be a saccaride whose solubility is such that the osmotic pressure of the solution has the desired bacteriostatic effect, and is non-toxic and palatable at such concentration. Low molecular weight saccharides are preferred, for example pentoses, hexoses, disaccharides, and hydrolysed starches. |
