PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellently safe food or food material having an apoptosis-inducing ability, obtained from an extract from Sarcodon aspretus (Berk.) S. Ito which is one kind of edible mushrooms, having slight adverse effects and useful for suppression or prophylaxis of various cancer diseases including leukemia.

SOLUTION: The food or food material is composed of the extract from the Sarcodon aspretus (Berk.) S. Ito obtained by extracting the Sarcodon aspretus (Berk.) S. Ito and has the apoptosis-inducing ability. The food or food material is composed of ergosterol peroxide derived from the Sarcodon aspretus (Berk.) S. Ito and has the apoptosis-inducing ability.
