PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a selector lever lock apparatus for an automobile which is effective for preventing an accidental start of the automobile and stealing of vehicles. SOLUTION: In this selector lever lock apparatus 1 for an automobile, when a selector (shift) lever 3 is in a P range position, the release of the selector lever from the P range position is prevented. A key socket 8 is provided on the backside of an upper plate face of a console case 2 covering the lower part of the shift lever 3, and the end face thereof is detected from the upper surface of the case 2. Further, a mechanism is provided. In this mechanism, the operation of a key inserted in the key socket 8 in the inner side of the case allows a forward and backward movable member to be advanced in such a direction that the selector lever 3 in the P range position is locked through a link 16, and by operating the key in the opposite direction, lock can be released.
