[Also in Divisions E2 and F2] Apparatus for forming a housing for a pipe joint includes a block 102 in one or several parts having a working surface 107 in the form of a truncated cone which when the block is lowered engages the end 109 of a cylinder 110 to press the end to the desired shape, the face 111 limiting bending of the end 109, and a block 115 secured to a base plate 114 and having a working surface 117 serving the same purpose as the surface 107. The blocks are centred by a pin placed in the bores 113, 123 and the base plate 114 is then secured to the table of a press. A holding ring 124 which guides and holds the cylinder 110 with respect to the blocks, has a recessed lower part that rests on a ring 127 slidable on the block and supported by a number of springs 129; the block 102, when lowered, forces downwardly the ring 124 over the block 115 until the shoulder of the recess in the ring rests on the rim of the block 115. The ring 124 may be mounted on the block 102 and guided by means, separate from the block, swingable away from the axis of the block. Separate stop means may limit the working stroke of the block 102. |
