<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for operating an internal combustion engine capable of securing a total fresh air mass flow, which satisfies an exhaust gas regulation value, even in the case of using an asymmetric exhaust gas re-circulation valve having a different characteristic in an air system, in regards to the exhaust gas re-circulation control in a multi-row air system. <P>SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine 1 is provided with the multi-row air system including multi-channel air supplying pipes 30 and 35 and multi-channel exhaust branch pipes 15 and 20. Exhaust gas is re-circulated from the multi-channel exhaust branch pipes 15 and 20 into the multi-channel air supplying pipes 30 and 35, and re-circulation of the exhaust gas is controlled to set a target fresh air mass flow. In this method and the device for operating the internal combustion engine 1, a value corresponding to a required total fresh air mass flow of the internal combustion engine 1 is set as a target value of the exhaust gas re-circulation control. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
