PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for displaying a cursor which permits a user to recognize a moving direction and moving speed of the cursor through intuition when he or she selects a menu.

SOLUTION: When a rotating operation of a rotating dial 12 provided on a portable telephone is detected, a CPU detects the rotating direction and the rotating speed of the rotating dial 12, and displays the cursor CR by adding a predetermined visual effect to it. More specifically, according to the rotating direction and the rotating speed of the rotating dial 12, the CPU adds a visual effect for showing flower petals or flames fluttering in the wind. Otherwise, the CPU adds a visual effect for showing bubbles rising from the cursor CR or meteors released radially from the cursor CR. The user can recognize the moving direction and the moving speed of the menu through intuition by the display direction and display speed of the visual effect.
