PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cut-point detecting apparatus and a cut-point detecting program capable of detecting, with high accuracy, a cut-point at which two shots are switched by using such effects as dissolve and fade while the two shots are composed among gradual cut-points. SOLUTION: The cut-point detecting apparatus extracts the difference of absolute values of the number of edge points between adjacent frame images from video data as a characteristic quantity, substitutes the characteristic quantity into a discrimination function obtained in advance and calculates the function to detect the gradual cut-points.
