PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a processing speed control device of an image reading apparatus capable of processing at the maximum processing speed corresponding to a processing condition or a processing environment in performing parallel processing of each of processing systems. SOLUTION: Since the image fetching speed vt of an image fetching section 14 can be variably changed if the transfer speed vi of an I/F18 is changed, the processing efficiency of the entire image reading apparatus 10 can be made the optimum condition according to the environment at that time. The fetching speed vt, a propagation speed vi and a processing speed vs which are calculated are inputted into a comparing section 64 and are compared with one anther, and the comparison result is sent to a fetching speed changing section 66. If a fetching speed vtmax is lower than the propagation speed vi and the processing speed vs, the maximum fetching speed is suitable, and the others are lower; the fetching speed vt is changed according to the lowest speed.
