PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical encoder with high resolution and low power consumption. SOLUTION: The optical encoder comprises a light emission part which emits light, a lens which collimates the light from the light emission part, a scale on which a V-shaped projection or a pattern formed by slits is provided on the surface opposite to the lens, a light receiving part which receives the light collimated by the lens and passing through the scale, and a reflection means which is provided at the light emission part side against the lens and reflects the light, which is reflected toward the lens from the scale and travels near the light emission part, toward the lens.
