<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent formation of a printed matter where the orientation of an inserted sheet does not coincides with the orientation of an image being formed on other page when printing is performed while involving the setting of stapling or punching and the setting for adding an insertion sheet, e.g. a cover. <P>SOLUTION: As shown on the drawing, a decision is made whether a document image is rotated or not based on print conditions, e.g. the setting direction or the stapling position of a document, set by a user. Subsequently, a decision is made whether the orientation of an image being formed on a transfer sheet coincides with the orientation of an inserted sheet or not under sheet discharge state before printing is started.
