PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which reduces a color gap at low cost by reducing the speed ripple of power transmitting elements being driven by the use of a universal motor to which a speed control circuit is attached beforehand.

SOLUTION: An operation part 110 performs operation based on a detected speed signal Sv1 from an encoder E, and a speed commanding part 120 receives the operation signal Sv2 and outputs a concrete speed command signal Sv3 to a drive part 200 so as to control the rotation of a motor M, thereby performing the rotational drive of an intermediate transfer belt 50 via a plurality of gears G connected to the motor rotary shaft Ms of the motor M.
