PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic solvent-soluble cellulose derivative having high biodegradability, and to provide a method for producing the derivative. SOLUTION: The biodegradable cellulose derivative is obtained by ring-opening reaction of a cyclic ester with cellulose in a cellulose solvent and is organic solvent-soluble even when lowly substituted and highly biodegradable.
