In a process for the production of carboxylic acid nitriles from the corresponding carboxylic acids and the nitriles of other carboxylic acids at elevated temperature a carboxylic acid is reacted whose pK value is less by at least 0À72 unit than the pK value of the carboxylic acid from which the starting nitrile has been derived. Specific nitriles prepared in the examples include o-bromo-, o-chloro- and ofluorobenzonitriles, and p-chloro- and p-nitrobenzo-nitriles. |
