<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antidiabetic agent as a diabetes-preventive and ameliorating agent exhibiting blood sugar increase-inhibiting effects and glucose-tolerance-improving effects or as a functional food containing the same and having diabetes-preventive and ameliorating actions, and a manufacturing method therefor. <P>SOLUTION: The antidiabetic agent comprises a seaweed of the family Laminariaceae, particularly powder of Ecklonia cava and a methanol-soluble portion thereof.
