PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct line gap between colors with high accuracy at the time of a low resolution mode and to enhance image reproducibility in the two beam simultaneous laser scanning arrangement of a tandem multi-color image forming apparatus of single polygon mirror arrangement. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus where a latent image is formed while selecting a low resolution mode using a single beam or a high resolution mode using two beams by reflecting laser beams from four two beam semiconductor lasers on each face of one polygon mirror rotating through one polygon motor and irradiating four corresponding drums respectively, laser beams being used at respective stations are selected at the time of low resolution mode such that the lines between stations approach each other among two laser beams.
