PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect workpiece crack generating in a place other than a working place at the time of machining. SOLUTION: With a strain gauge 4 stuck to the frame of a cutting machine 1, a signal detected by this strain gauge 4 at the time of machining is differentiated in a differentiation circuit 6c constituting a sequencer 6, and then, this differentiated waveform is decided by a decision circuit 6e. At the same time, the original waveform detected by the deformation gauge 4 is discriminated while being compared with a normal waveform in a comparing/deciding circuit 6g. On the basis of both decision results, the final decision is made in an AND circuit 6h. As a result, the workpiece crack generating in a place other than a working place at the time of machining can be easily and surely detected. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
