Apparatus for thermal or chemical treatment of slurry, filter cakes and bulk goods has an outer trough, through which a conveyor screw or bucket chain passes. The trough is made up of static sections (1a, 1b, 1c) linked by flexible connections (3a, 3b) to dynamic zones (2, 17). The static sections are attached by mountings (24a - 24d) to a base (25) and the dynamic sections are mounted on scales (7a, 7b, 8a, 8b).
