<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a life monitoring device for disclosing information abstracted with such an extent of precision that a person to be monitored desires by abstracting information from a sensor in accordance with a prescribed abstraction level. <P>SOLUTION: A sensor 101 transmits a detection result resulting from detection of an activity state of a person to be observed to an abstraction means 102. A sorting and registering means 104 stores sorting information into a sorting storage means 103. The abstraction means 102 reduces information quality by abstracting the detection result from the sensor 101 on the basis of the sorting information read out from the storage means 103 and outputs the abstracted information to a communication means 105. The communication means 105 transmits the abstracted information input from the abstraction means 102 to equipment at a remote site where an observer is present. The communication means 106 receives the information from the communication means 105 to output it to a display means 107.
