PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston for reducing the quantity of heat escaping from a low heat conductive member provided for earlier temperature rise near the peak of the piston to a piston body, and provide an internal combustion engine using the same. SOLUTION: The low heat conductive member 12 has a recessed portion 12b on the side face along the edge on the bottom face side of a void portion 11b to form an air layer 13b functioning as a heat insulating layer. This reduces the quantity of heat escaping not only from the reverse face of the low heat conductive member 12 but also from the side face thereof to the piston body 11. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
