PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recognition character correcting device having a handwritten character input interface convenient for use and whose operation can be easily mastered, which presents easy correcting operation in the case of erroneous recognition of handwritten characters. SOLUTION: The recognition character correcting device has a user interface which detects a handwritten character of a user and stores coordinate values as strokes per segment and recognizes the handwritten character stored as a stroke group and stores a recognition result and corrects an erroneously recognized character designated from the recognition result by the user, to a correct character by one indication. The user interface displays not only a list of recognition candidates in the vicinity of the erroneously recognized character but also the designated erroneously recognized character, in response to user's indication of the inside of a circumscribed quadrangle of the erroneously recognized character and moves to a correction character in a correction candidate list with the erroneously recognized character indicated as it is and replaces the erroneously recognized character with a character in the movement destination in response to termination of the indication on the character in the movement destination.
