PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To directory detect the temperature of a heating portion and to perform the operation for preventing overheating even in a fixing device provided with an electromagnetic induction heating means on the outer side of a heat generation roller. SOLUTION: The fixing device 10 is constituted by arranging a fixing roller 22 in parallel with the heat generation roller 21 performing electromagnetic induction heating with the induction heating means 20 and putting an endless heat resistant belt 23 across and around both the rollers such that the direct detection of the temperature of the induction heating area by an overheating prevention device 30 can be operated. The overheating prevention device 30 comprises a thermostat 31, the heat generation roller 21 and a sheet-like heat conduction member 32 coming into direct contact the heat resistant belt 23. The contact area of the heat conduction member 32 is confined within the area where the induction heating means 20 and the heat generation roller 21 and the heat resistant belt 23 face each other. A thermostat 31 is turned on and off according to the heat transferred through the heat conduction member 32 to most adequately perform checking of the overheating of the area most desirable as the point to be subjected to the temperature detection by the overheating prevention device 30.
