PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a granular highly absorbing resin having a great average particle diameter and improved resin fixing properties and to provide a method for stably producing the highly absorbing resin by a reversed-phase suspension polymerization method. SOLUTION: The highly absorbing resin is produced as follows. An aqueous solution containing a water-soluble monomer having at least one ethylenically unsaturated bond in the molecule and a polyacidic amino acid, as necessary, containing at least one ethylenically unsaturated double bond in the molecule and/or a polyacidic amino acid without the ethylenically unsaturated double bond in the molecule, etc., is fed to a hydrophobic organic solvent containing an organic bentonite and water-in-oil type reversed-phase suspension polymerization is carried out in the presence of an anionic surfactant.
