PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-molecular compound having various luminescence characteristics and usable as an organic EL element, the low-molecular compound having high luminous efficiency and further a compound having a three-dimensional structure and usable as a fluorescent dye and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: A phenanthrene compound is represented by general formula (I) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>s denote each independently a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or an alkyl group).
