PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle body assembling device and a vehicle body assembling method shortening a cycle time of side member installation work in mixing production of many kinds of vehicles and capable of maintaining stable productivity even if inconvenience such as operation failure of a production facility is generated. SOLUTION: The vehicle body assembling device has a plurality of conveying pallets 1 traveling/moving along a circulation type assembling line and assembles a side member SM to an under body UB positioned/supported to each conveying pallet 1. The assembling line is provided with an under body transferring station ST1, a side member preset station ST2, a side member assembling station ST3, and other work stations ST4. The respective conveying pallets 1 are provided with a temporary retaining means 10 for temporarily retaining the side member SM, and the side member SM installed in the side member assembling station ST3 is fed to the subsequent work station while being mounted on the respective pallets 1.
