PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and method, which reduce unevenness and streak due to an abnormal nozzle ejecting direction inherent in a line head, in an image forming apparatus provided with a full line head. SOLUTION: In an inkjet recording apparatus having the full line head 50, an abnormal nozzle 51C which ejects liquid droplets in a shifted direction is detected, then part of dots ejected from a nozzle 51D adjacent to the nozzle 51C is made a larger-sized compensation dot 103D. The dot 103D fills a clearance generated between a dot array 120C and a dot array 120D. The streak and the unevenness are reduced thereby. The compensation dot may be ejected from a nozzle 51B, but it is more preferable that the compensation dot is ejected from the nozzle 51D, because a larger area of the clearance is filled.
