A power generation system being associated with two naturally occurring regions (x,y)of tidal water at opposite sides of a naturally formed land mass such that the water level in one region can differ from the water level in the other region as a result of naturally restricted tidal flow of water between the two regions, includes: a pipe system (s) installed to extend across the land mass so as to extend at least from one side of the land mass to at least the other side of the land mass such that the water will flow through the pipe system from the region of higher water level to the region of lower water level, and a turbine (z) driven by water flowing through the pipe system, the tidal conditions of the two regions (x,y)of water being such that over a complete tidal cycle each water region will, for some time, be at higher water level than the other region and water will flow through the pipe system (s) in either direction from whichever side of the land mass has higher water level at any given time , and the turbine (z)is driven by flow in each direction through the pipe system.
