A cutting tool comprises a shank 6 and a plurality of cutting inserts 16, 18, 20, 22, 24 mounted in side by side stepped relationship in a seating at one end of the shank which is formed with a nose portion 8. A correspondingly stepped one piece cutter seating plate 36 is provided in the shank seating on which the respective cutter inserts are secured by means of a clamping plate 26. The clamping plate is provided with finger portions 62 one for each of the cutting inserts. To ensure the retention of the cutting inserts in their stepped alignment during operation, a stepped back plate 48 is provided which overlies the seating plate. The back plate 48 is independently secured to the shank and also provides the means of holding the seating plate in the shank seating. The cutter inserts may be form cutters and may be interchangeable and disposable. |
