A plasma display panel and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to achieve improved electron emission characteristics and ensure a voltage margin. A plasma display panel comprises a plurality of discharge cells having discharge spaces; and an alkali metal layer(20) formed in the discharge cells so as to supply electrons to the discharge spaces. Each of the discharge cells has a protective film(16), and the alkali metal layer is formed on the protective film. Each of the discharge cells includes scan electrodes(Y) and sustain electrodes(Z) formed on an upper substrate(10), and data electrodes(X) formed on a lower substrate(18).
