A method and system for updating software are provided to keep on suspended updating even when log data stored in a journaling region according to a journaling procedure is lost. A flash memory(202) stores software, in which a journaling region and the first and second backup journaling regions are allocated. A processor(200) updates the software while storing log data indicating an execution result of each stage according to an update procedure in the journaling region, copies content stored in the journaling region in the first backup journaling region and stores log data indicating the copy result in the second backup journaling region whenever each stage is completely executed.
