An image display device and a method for converting and displaying an image are provided to automatically convert the image without the movement of a user and have a driving unit for vertically or horizontally moving a synthesis image. A driving unit(50) vertically or horizontally moves an image in a uniform period by a distance of a width(d) of a conversion image. An encoder(54) measures the output of the driving unit. A microprocessor(51) measures an operation state of the driving unit from the encoder, and controls the driving of the driving unit. The driving unit includes a DC motor(52) and a deceleration gear(53) combined to the DC motor. The DC motor is driven by a PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) signal inputted from the microprocessor.
