A TVDP(TV Disk Player) capable of displaying a file type selecting menu and a method for displaying the file type selecting menu on the TVDP are provided to supply information on types of files recorded in a disk to a user when at least two kinds of the files are recorded in the disk, so that the user can directly select a desired file type. A reader(160) reads recorded files from a disk. A memory(190) records types of the read files. A display(150) displays a file type selecting menu where the file types are displayed. A DVDP controller(170) judges whether the disk is a complex disk, based on the recorded file types, and generates a video signal corresponding to the file type selecting menu if the disk is the complex disk, then transmits the generated video signal to the display(150). An input unit(110) comprises a key for selecting one of the file types included in the file type selecting menu.
