A scroll compressor is provided to lift an orbiting scroll with predetermined pressure by refrigerant gas under discharge pressure or intermediate pressure, thereby forming a chamber by contact between the orbiting scroll and a fixed scroll. A scroll compressor includes an orbiting scroll(17) of which an orbiting lap(17a) carries out orbiting motion in a fixed lap of a fixed scroll in association with the rotation of a driving shaft. A ring(6) is formed with upper and lower protrusions(6a,6b) on upper and lower surfaces for the orbiting scroll to orbit in the fixed scroll while preventing the orbiting scroll from revolving. A plate(20) is mounted at a lower end of the orbiting scroll for lifting the orbiting scroll by refrigerant gas of intermediate or discharge pressure, so that the orbiting scroll closely contacts the fixed scroll, forming a chamber. A discharge pressure controller(40) is mounted at a predetermined position of the plate for controlling a pressure in the chamber.
