METHOD FOR ALLOCATING INTERNET PROTOCOL ADDRESS OF MOBILE ACCESS ROUTER

A method for allocating an IP address in a mobile access router is provided to effectively manage an IP address in case that the IP address is changed by allowing a mobile access router to serve as a dynamic host configuration protocol server. A mobile access router transmits a DHCP DISCOVER message for searching the closest dynamic host configuration protocol server(201). When the mobile access router receives a DHCP DISCOVER message for searching the closest dynamic host configuration protocol server from a mobile terminal or from an AP(Access Point), the access router does not respond to it and holds it until the mobile access router is allocated an IP address of a sub-IP address from the dynamic host configuration protocol server(202). When the mobile access router receives a DHCP OFFER message from the dynamic host configuration protocol server(203), it transmits a DHCP REQUEST message for requesting allocation of an IP address pool to the dynamic host configuration protocol server(204), and the dynamic host configuration protocol server allocates a successive IP address pool to the mobile access router(205). The mobile access router sets one IP address of the allocated IP address pool as its IP address and transmits a DHCP ENROL message for requesting its registration to the dynamic host configuration protocol server(206). The dynamic host configuration protocol server transmits a DHCP ACK message for permitting registration of the mobile access router with the IP address(207). The mobile access router transmits a response message to the DHCP DISCOVER message to the mobile terminal or to the AP(208). The mobile terminal or the AP transmits a message for requesting allocation of an IP address to the mobile access router(209). The mobile access router allocates one of its IP addresses(210).
