A shaft bearing comprises a ring of tiltable segments 3 each being supported by a respective element 4, each segment and associated element forming an assembly having a device which produces relative movement of the segment and element. In Fig. 1 a shoe 4<SP>1</SP> on support element 4 is slidably movable in recess 7 in the segment 3 by servomotor pistons 6<SP>1</SP>, 6<SP>2</SP> which are extended from cylinders in the segment by oil pressure. Pressurized oil is also supplied via passage 9 to the surfaces of the segment sliding against shoe and shaft. In Fig. 2 (not shown) rollers (10) are positioned between shoe and segment. In Fig. 3 (not shown) servomotor cylinders are formed in the shoe. |
