ESTIMATION OF TONER USAGE

A method for estimating toner use quantity is provided to calculate a rate of a transition count/pixel count and estimate toner consumption quantity on the basis of the rate of the transition count/pixel count. A rate of a transition count/pixel count determined from a pixel count and a transition count is calculated using a printer controller(11)(30,32). A pixel count is increased as certain consumption quantity per pixel value on the basis of the rate of the transition count/pixel count per page to obtain toner consumption quantity per page(34). The toner consumption quantity is subtracted from previous toner quantity which remains in a cartridge to obtain remaining toner quantity and store the obtained remaining toner quantity in a memory(36). The remaining toner quantity is calculated as percent data, and the percent data are transmitted to a CRUM(Customer Replaceable Unit Monitor)(28).
