The method involves determining two vectors from signals received by a receiver. A correlation and a square error between the vectors are calculated. A cost function (F1) that is a linear combination of two previous cost functions is calculated, and according to sign of result, another cost function is calculated to estimate an initial frame, and the receiver is activated. An independent claim is also included for a device to control a receiver in a digital communication system.
